Unless you have been living in a difficult situation for the past six months, you will find that fashion has changed dramatically as people begin to emerge from lockdowns triggered by pandemics around the world. Under the leadership of new brands such as Bottega Veneta and The Row, the minimalist style that existed for many years before the advent of Covid is gone. Gone are the many home clothes we used to comfort ourselves when we were at home. In their place? Minimalism in the 90s and the millennium bug era: butterfly accessories, low-rise jeans, mini skirts, bold colors, bold prints and bold hem. We are promised to usher in an unfulfilled 20s, but at the same time, we are having fun and re-entering the world in a fun, frivolous and colorful way.

Although it feels like we are just beginning to embrace (or tolerate) the return of low-rise housing, those who predict trends have already begun to predict what will happen in 2022. On TikTok, the search for Indie Sleaze has begun to become a trend (think high flash photography, 90s club scenes, inaccurate eyeliner, old American clothing ads, messy hair and side sweep bangs), etc., Tumblr There are also everything-yes, that site we used to frequent before Facebook.

To help predict what will happen next, we interviewed the founder of Order of Style Lana Coppel, an Australian fashion e-tailer. After working in the fashion industry for about ten years, Coppel launched Order of Style in 2015. Always keen on trend forecasting and using pre-season planning meetings to understand the wider society, to pay attention to what is happening in the world and what we wear, she breaks down what we (and Dua Lipa and Bella Hadid) will soon covet The perfect candidate.

When did you start to notice that your clients are turning to more nostalgic works and trends in the 90s/Y2K era?

Basically all emerging trends reflect the emotions within society, and they are the moments when you can truly determine consumer sentiment. The fashion of the 1990s and 2000s is closely related to the rapidly changing world-in this world, technological progress is huge, wealth disparity, many unknowns, some paranoia and important moments of cultural change. It is very similar to what has affected us in the past 18 months. This nostalgia in the fashion industry is usually a response to consumers who want to comfort themselves. It is a way for them to reset their lives with new and old things after Covid. The first important sign of the 90s and Y2K that was most popular for me was the shift from skinny jeans to a looser, wider-leg style.

Have you noticed that the designers in your inventory cater to changing trends? Who do you think is doing well?

More mature ready-to-wear brands tend not to be deeply committed to trend revival. However, they usually incorporate some elements, such as color, fabric and contour adjustments on the basis of established aesthetics, to attract more trend-conscious customers. MOTHER Denim designed a denim brand in Los Angeles, always grasping the pulse of culture, cleverly executing trends, and doing a good job in embracing the 90s and the Y2K revival.

Do you think this pandemic has anything to do with the huge shift in trends and our shift from The Row-style minimalism to butterfly accessories and nude items?

no doubt. Periods of restraint (whether self-motivating or imposed) always lead to periods of transition! The trends of the 90s are very special-skirts over pants, furry bucket hats, hair clips, blue mascara! mascara! The mesh blouse under the vest, for which a belt is fastened. The list goes on... I think this is a super interesting aesthetic, and truly takes dressing as a celebration of self, with a sense of frivolity that I think everyone desires.

Which nostalgic items do your consumers particularly like?

We have seen a lot of new style denim sales, and bright Y2K colors are also very popular.

Where do you think the trend is? Do you have any predictions for the next step?

I think this trend will definitely continue into the summer in the southern hemisphere. This is a very interesting aesthetic, and it really works in warm weather. I think that after this, we may enter a more grunge-y era in the 1990s. We can see style items such as Doc Martens, flannel jackets and mid-waist vests, and even loose jeans, plaid "PJ" flannel, etc. Already paid tribute to the pants and skate shoes [known as Indie Sleaze on TikTok]. Or it can continue to take a more interesting and frivolous path, and we will begin to see the candy carnival aesthetics popular in the 90s club scene-think of Romi and Michelle's high school party and never been kissed.
