The city of Stockton has the largest inland seaport in California. The Port of Stockton is located about 80 miles east of San Francisco Bay on the San Joaquin River. It was officially opened in 1932, but the city has been the host of sailing ships since the 1860s. Because of this, the High-A California League Oakland A branch in the town got its name.

It is for this reason that one of the logos that the Stockton Port team of minor league baseball has used since 2002 is a tugboat opposite the letter S.

Earlier today, Oakland A's Low-A subsidiary Ports introduced a new batting practice cap that contains an improved version of the tug, which now stands alone on a black cap with a red rim. The team will use the new cap from the 2022 season starting on April 8.
