Donald Hill died at the beloved home of Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard at the age of 94 on October 29, 2021.

Donald was born in Wilson and Eva Hill in West Hazelton, Pennsylvania. He studied at Pennsylvania State University and received a degree in chemical engineering in 1948. During his service in Fort Dix from 1950 to 1952, he met and married his whole life, Mary Allen, who was married to him for more than 70 years.

Donald had a successful career at Mobil Oil Company, starting in Paulsboro, New Jersey, then New York City, and later in Fairfax, Virginia. He and his wife are long-term residents of Woodbury, New Jersey, and summer residents of Martha's Vineyard. After retiring from Mobil, Donald designed and renovated the family home on the island and moved there full-time in 1991.

He has a mind that likes puzzles, a bucket hat for every occasion, and a checklist. Donald took a red cross book borrowed from the library and taught himself to swim in the lagoon pond. Later he learned how to sail in a similar way. He loves nature, and he teaches his family boating, canoeing, towing and pitching tents. He introduced us to the island, a place where we all cherish its unusual beauty.

Donald was survived by his loyal wife Mary Allen (LaDow) Hill; his children and their spouses, Elizabeth and Norman Lyler, David and Kelly Hill, and Mary and Jim Long; his grandson, Emily (Lehrer) Pierce, Benjamin Lehrer, Miranda Hill Jacob, Michael Hill, Megan Long and Delaney Long; and his great grandchildren, Oakland Hill and Julian Lehrer. His sisters Doris Hill and Gladys (Hill) Sachs died before him.

Donald will be remembered as a thoughtful, logical, and kind person who served as the treasurer of Lagoon Pond for many years, as well as a tax assistant and hospice volunteer. He belongs to the first and third clubs and is a member of the Edgartown United Church. He loves his wife and family deeply, and is extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A private service is being planned. Visit chapmanfuneral.com for online tribute and information.
