A24 is also auctioning some goods-which means you can also own a notebook fisherman hat.

From the fisherman hat with The Notebook logo to becoming a John Malkovich Matryoshka, to the Jaws beach bag, the film company spared no effort to promote their films. If you are lucky, you can find some of these items while browsing Goodwill's T-shirt racks, but most of them are eventually lost in boxes in people's basements—until now. A24 is the studio behind the weird custom movies, such as Midsommar, Moonlight and this wild lamb movie that I can’t wait to see. They are digging out some of the strangest movie marketing products in a new book, for promotional use only: Hollywood Movie Catalog 1975 Booty and promotional items from 2005 to 2005.

For Promotional Use Only showcased 165 marketing works, demonstrating the film company’s efforts in promoting films, making it an equally good gift for film lovers or marketing cynics in life. Of course, selling a coffee table book ($52) that is essentially an advertisement is ironic—but nothing is sacred. Advertising itself has long been an art form, even reaching the category of fine art.

These photos look like the greatest thrift store ever, but also like the treasures you found at McDonald’s Happy Meals 20 years ago, including everything from Godzilla’s flashlights and bean mouse pads to Twister ties and clues East and West round neck (will be 100% purchased). They also interspersed articles about the history of movie merchandise, including an interview with Steve Elman behind the Jaws Beach Bag, and articles by cultural critic Lindsay Zoraz. (By the way, they may not make movie peripheral products like they did before, but book publishers have been adopting some excessive strategies, such as this confusing Sally Rooney bucket hat.)

As part of the release, the studio will hold a charity auction of most of the items, including a lemon green Parent Trap belt bag, a Sixth Sense counterfeit Magic 8 ball and a Wayne World Cup plastic cup. The auction is held in cooperation with @NightPromoting, which is a Twitter account that records strange movie merchandise.

The auction will be held on Thursday at A24 Auctions and will continue until this weekend. The proceeds will be donated to the Vidiots Foundation, an alternative audiovisual store in Los Angeles that provides screenings and educational programs. Check out the peaks below for promotional use only, and purchase the book here.
