Waterloo Region, Ontario - Waterloo Regional Police continue to investigate the suspicious death of an 8-year-old child that occurred on May 14, 2022, in Cambridge.
On May 20, 2022, in the early morning hours, Halton Regional Police located a deceased male in a bush area on a rural property in Milton.
Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Major Crime Unit were notified.
Through investigation, police suspect the deceased male is Mr. Curtis Hesselink, pending confirmation following a post-mortem examination.
The death is not considered to be suspicious.
Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Investigative Services Division continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the 8-year-old child.
Investigators can confirm that the male is the father of the child.

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service continue to investigate the suspicious death of an 8-year-old child on Townline Road in Cambridge.
Through the investigation, police have identified a male they continue to search for who may have information that could assist investigators.
Curtis Hesselink, 41, from Cambridge, is known to the child, and there are concerns for his wellbeing and safety. If anyone sees him, please do not approach him, but contact police immediately by calling 9-1-1.
Investigators continue to search the area of Townline Road and River Road in Cambridge, including a property in the area, for Mr. Hesselink.
Initial information indicated concerns relating to firearms, however, further information and investigation have resulted in no current threat to public safety.
"The tragic death of an 8-year-old, especially under unclear circumstances, raises many concerns for our community," said Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police. "I want to reassure Cambridge residents and the broader Waterloo Region community that we have dedicated investigators working around the clock to determine exactly what took place and locate Mr. Hesselink safely."
A post-mortem examination has been completed, however, a cause of death has yet to be determined.

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service continue to investigate a suspicious death on Townline Road in Cambridge.
As a result of the investigation, police are still looking to speak to the male they were searching for in the area of Townline Road and River Road. The male is described as white, approximately 40-years-old, 5’11”, blue eyes, thin build, short blonde hair and facial scruff. The male was last seen wearing brown khaki pants and possibly wearing a blue or black army style bucket hat. There are concerns for his safety.
There will be a heavy police presence in the area throughout the day as police continue their investigation.
The male and the deceased child are known to one another and this is believed to be an isolated incident.
The investigation is ongoing by members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Major Crime, General Investigations and Forensic Identification Units.
More information will be released following the post mortem examination.

On May 14, 2022, at approximately 10 a.m., emergency services were called to a residence in the area of Townline Road and River Road in Cambridge.
Upon arrival, police located an 8-year-old male child deceased.
Police continue to search for a male in the area of Townline Road and River Road. The male is described as white, approximately 40-years-old, 5’11”, blue eyes, thin build, short blonde hair and facial scruff. The male was last seen wearing brown khaki pants and possibly wearing a blue or black army style bucket hat. The male may be armed and dangerous and there are concerns for his safety.
Police will remain on scene in the area as the investigation continues into the circumstances that led to the death. A post mortem will take place.
