And it is feeling and looking a little more like it did pre pandemic times with the crowd coming Around us. Here it is thickening. Look at all the people gathered in front of the main stage on Fayetteville Street as we're less than 20 minutes from the countdown when the acorn will fall just less than 20 minutes until we hit 2022. It is a festive joyous crowd. And many of these people echo the sentiments of Mayor, Marianne, baldwin as she was talking about this desire to get back to a sense of normalcy to come together for this great communal event in Raleigh. This is our tradition. The acorn is iconic. It's symbolic of Raleigh and to see it dropping through the night sky on New Year's Eve is really something special. We heard from the correspondent in New york city who described Times Square is a magical place on New Year's Eve. Well, Raleigh is magical as well on New Year's Eve just to see all these people coming together being safe. Many of them are wearing masks and of course there are covid protocols in place. The festival organizers have really tried to make this a safe experience because you need to show proof of vaccination or proof of a negative covid test to make it in here. And people said that's enough for them to feel safe. They feel like they can come here to this celebration and be outside and be completely safe. Be as safe as they can be from Covid. It feels good for me to be here after a couple of years. I love seeing Raleigh celebrate like this on New Year's Eve and we just really needed this after these two very long years, Two years so long. So it's it's great to be back out here. I gotta tell you, yes. Yeah, I mean it felt right in the weather. Gosh, it's just beautiful right now. It's a cool little cooler than it was a few hours ago. It looks like it did a couple of years ago when I was last year. There are people with their cell phone cameras up as you can see there are people with party hats and noisemakers and they are just really getting into just getting into the thrill of it all. We've seen some people celebrating toast in the street right now on the stage, they are getting ready to do the countdown for the acorn to drop. It is so good to see this after two years and now they are doing at the countdown and getting ready to Not quite, but we will be countdown with them here in just a moment. It is so cool to see all these people coming together and celebrating and just having a happy time and a safe time. Celebration organizers really made a point to make this as safe as possible. People felt comfortable to come and share in this special experience. We're all in this together as the emcee is onstage and saying we're in this together and we'll be counting down for the acorn to drop and it's the first time in two years that we've seen this happen. So it's a really extra special and I'll just show you the crowd here, basically shoulder to shoulder there are lots of kids I've noticed in the crowd, They have the celebration for the kids at 7:00 but I see a lot of kiddies here with their parents At this late hour to ring in 2022 and we are getting ready. 38 seconds away From the corn coming to the ground, 33 seconds, we'll be counting down and we'll be seeing the fireworks. It's just a beautiful night here. And while it feels good the breeze is blowing and we have some storms in the area, but it's, it's nice and tall here. I spent two years since I stood among this crowd and it was greatly back again and seeing all the people and how happy they are seeing people embraced one another, kissed each other to toast the new Year coming in. It was just an uplifting experience for me to see all this again after a crazy two years, two years and it felt more like five years. So to be in this joyous occasion is, is really, really helpful.
